NEWS UPDATE….

Its been a very strange week around the world. BHA has the the right decision in my (Clare) opinion 6 weeks gives the country a chance to come to terms with whats happening. It is not going to be easy it is going to be difficult for every one in the industry but we have to remember we all in it together and hopefully come out stronger on the other side.

Hopefully these pictures can put a smile on your face for. short time. I will try to regularly update the website with photos during these strange times. If you are reading my website please stay safe and stay in, we are all in this together and will get through this if we all do as we are told. STAY IN !!!

A little bit of news ….

Things are starting to get going now with the start of the grass season not far away now. All our two year olds have been galloping upsides in pairs for the last few weeks and have been very pleasing. The older horses too have stepped up a gear, we are looking forward to getting out an about very soon.

AN INTERSETING MORNING WITH CATRIONA FROM STATION HOUSE VETS

This week we had Catriona our Vet come in to X-ray a 2 yr old fillies knees to check her growth plates, which showed they had not fully fused. With the images and Catriona experience it was decided that the filly would be given a break to let her bones develop. We pride our selves on treating each horse as an individual and getting to know them so well we can notice the smallest of changes in their behaviour and bodies.

Luckily this week the wind calmed own so we got to get the 2 yr olds out In the grass(well they are meant to have grass lol) which they all thoroughly enjoyed

We are happy to report that Jack is learning how to use his drone so we will be hopefully going to get some shots from the sky.

As with all our horses there daily exercise is on the lunge. This is a way of training we learned from Adrians Dad Dandy. He had years of success and many a good winner from this way of training. Dandys’ old head lad Ben Beasley is a major part of team and a fountain of knowledge.

Adrian and myself had a few days away in Dubai and left The Ranch in the very capable hands of our wonderful team. We are a very small yard who are very lucky to have such a great team.

I was always told that horses feel very safe when they are lay down so I love nothing more than catching the team having a little nap.

Last week at The Ranch

It has been a very wild week with regards to the weather but as they say the show must go. We have managed to get all the horses out every day even some getting out for a play around when it wasn’t too windy.

This weekend we had a great bunch of lads come to the yard to see there recent purchase Five and Dine, they are a syndicate called Ackworth Racing who own him in partnership with his breeder Derek Wellicome. Racing can be for everybody and we are hoping the Big Dick (Five and Dine) can give these lads a great first experience…..Come racing

It was great to see Mia back riding she has had a rough few months with recently been diagnoised with Crohn”s Disease. At the moment she is on an 8 week liquid only diet, which is working thank God. She has gained some weight and also her energy levels are back up. We are honoured that our Good friend Lesley is going to do The Great North Run to raise money and awareness for Crohn’s and Colitis UK … so please if you can please no matter how small donate https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lesley-barr-simplyhealth-great-north-run-2020

This week also saw the arrival of some new faces, the boys have settled in well and hopefully their new owner will enjoy some fun times..

NEWS FROM LAST WEEK

We are very happy like all other trainers how are young crop of two year olds are going. We treat them all as individuals and for that reason they are all at different stages.

ITS NOT ALL HARD WORK..

No happier sight than the horses lay down, it maybe wet and wild outside but inside its dry and cosy

TWO YEAR OLD FILIES STRETCHING OUT..
PLAYTIME FOR THE STRAWMAN..

Its not all hard work our horses do get some playtime too(if its not blowing a gale and lashing with rain) as you can see here Peter is having a great time larking around.

SCOOBY AND NEOL (THE BIG HOUSE)..

Sometimes in life you just need a pal and thats exactly what Scooby is to Neol his best pal. If you head up to see the boys 9 times out of 1o Neol is looking into scooby stable and on occassion Neol gives Scooby a much loved bum scratch

ALAMEERY AKA ED…

Ed is our chunky 4 year old colt. Barry McHugh has been ito ride him a few times and is happy to report that since his mid winter break he feels that it has done him the world of good. We are now looking forward to the season ahead.

Intrinsic (far side) and Bated Breath (nr side)..

This was a big day at school for these two it was there first time doing a faster bit of work upsides. We were pleased with both girls and they will no doubt come on for it. Learning in a happy enviroment is key to success and getting the best out of them.

STRAWMAN AND TEN THOUSAND STARS..

Two of our 3 year olds braving the elements on top of Sutton Bank Adrain on Strawman leading the way for Barry McHugh on Ten Thousand Stars. Both have filled out nicely and will hopefully improve from their winning 2yr old campaign.
